August 15, 2008 : Shanmuga Nagar & Thiruvengada Nagar Independence Day Celebration :
Reached Home at 10.30 p.m. on Thursday, the day before Independence day with huge expectations about independence day preparations by Association Members & Residents of Shanmuga Nagar.
The Heart is full of Joy as it is going to be a holiday tomorrow and may be meeting people whom we do not able to meet often. Had Nice Dinner and went to Sleep !
Started to Venue at 7.30 A.M. Last Minute touch up were going on. Senior Association Members were working hard. The Venue is so colour full. Full of Blue & Red Plastic Chairs.
The Stage looked simple but ready to organise a high end political meeting and all time great evening celebrations. NCC Master of Natesan Vidyasala was busy tying the thread in Flag Post.
Returned home and had Breakfast. Went to Venue at around 9.00 A.M to join Flag Hoisting by Mannivakkan Panchayat Leader Shri. M.D. Loganathan.
All Association Members were present and the stage was set for flag hoisting.
The Panchayat leader came and hoisted the flag and gave a remarkable speech. He has elaborated the earlier how the nagars used to look like & its present look. 6 Cement Roads,
Considerable No. of Road Lights including one tall Tower light. Overhead Tank, Water Pipe Connections covering the Nagar. Gave assurance of one more overhead tank and connections
directly to home and a public space to host these type of Functions. He was greeted with huge applause by residents of Shanmuga Nagar. We sincerely hope that he will stand by his words.
Seeing Kriba at the top of the buildings around the venue with camera was thrilling that each and every moment is recorded.
Returned Home.
It seems Sports event took place through out the day. Though I am interested, my health and lack of interest did not allow me to participate. But Its nice to see Kids, young chaps and
people belonging to all age groups actively participating and winning prizes. I missed the Cricket Match which has created so hype. Wish more such events and more participants come and participate.
Evening Celebrations, the highlight of the day was started at around 7.00 P.M.
Association Members, Chief Guest gave their speech shortly and legibily. Shri. Manikandan has explained how the members were behind the scene, in all the acheivements made by Nagar.
Hats of fto them for their impeccbale hard work and their unity without Ego, sacrifising their personal commitments.
Then, the programmes started with Key Board music by young fellow, and followed by a girl showed the interesting time on the cards to come.
The Barathanatiyam Dance by two young girls were really wonderful and sojoyful. It gives a great sense of satisfaction that we were able to see traditional dance in traditional costumes at so close enough. I have never heard a oppurtunity of the same to seen ever before. Their Contribution to Nagar's Successful evening celebration is much more than any other event.
Then came the Dance, Drama, Story telling, Slokas telling, Prize Distribution. How many people participated, How many people contributed behind the stage, a real united show by nagar residents.
The Quality of the Speakers that we hired were not upto the Mark was the only draw back I could see.
Snacks & Tea were provided to residents, The Programmes were going on & on… even after 10.30 P.M.
The Crowd ! There were no seats available for some of residents who arrived late, which elaborates the success of the event achieved and the interest shown by residents in participating such events
As I said earlier, without the hard work of Assn Members, their time spent in pre prepartions of Fn, the Fn might not have achieved a success of this calibre.
I feel shame that I am not able to contribute much in the event held on August 15th. Instead of writing this lengthy boring comment to post in blog, I might have contributed physically some thing to the event.
What we are seeing is, the output of 10 people who came together & contributed. What will be the Quality & Quantity of output, if all the nagar people contribute their bit !
Next Step of Green & Garbage Free Nagar is achieveable, provided the above happens,

Karthik, you have displayed your inclination for journalism very well but seem to have missed out on one of the most important problems of this age i.e. global warming and ecology destruction to remedy which our Nagars' Association , no doubt in a small way, with the sponsorship of Lions Club of South Chennai and its President Lion P.N.Bhavanisankar planted tree saplings with necessary tree guards donated by Lions Club and Lion. Vairsekhar on Independence Day.
